At daybreak the four left the safety of Steven’s townhouse and moved through the city, avoiding Skyhook’s foot-soldiers and reluctantly unable to assist the citizens devastated by their onslaught. Steven kept the group pointed in the right direction and he reminded them as they travelled that the only way they could help the people in Crown City was by leaving the city.

The group stood in awe when they saw Skyhook’s airship moored to Steven’s silver bridge home. The mammoth ship was larger than any of them had ever seen. Steven remarked under his breath that the ship was five times bigger than the doomed Hindenburg that exploded in 1937. Even with all of his aviation improvements Steven never trusted airships. Not safe.

Steven knew Crown City better than most people. He knew every side-street, every sewer entrance and could navigate the streets with no problem. Even Oz and Hardy were not sure which way Steven was taking them.

Keeping close to the taller buildings helped mask them from the Projectile Men rocketing overhead. Steven checked his watch. Our two hours are running out. Keeping them concealed from troops on the ground and in the air Steven doubted they would make it to the airport before Skyhook’s time was up.

Throwing caution aside Steven moved his wayward group away from the protection of the buildings and began a steady jog through the streets. Hardy took point and ran several yards up ahead looking for oncoming storm troopers, while Oz kept to the rear making sure no one approached them from behind.

Steven kept Leslie and the Amulet close to him. The mere fact that Skyhook wanted the Amulet made him wary of his intentions. If the Amulet was the key to the Osiris project, then it could be used for deadlier purposes. He needed to know more. Professor Lucas Gray would have been the one man to give him all the answers. Shillion Jack considered a charlatan by many, knew the professor and may have some of the answers. Steven only hoped.

With less than twenty minutes left in Skyhook’s imposed curfew, the group arrived just outside the airport. The hanger that housed Steven’s private planes was located on the other side of the complex. No planes appeared to be taking off or landing which led Steven to believe that any arriving aircraft had been diverted to another city. Why hasn’t anyone investigated?

Keeping them hidden in the foliage on the outer perimeter of the complex, Hardy led the group around the edge of a twelve-foot high chain- link fence, and around to the back of the airport closer to the hanger.

“How do we get over the fence?” Leslie asked.

Steven motioned for Leslie to follow him. Oz opened a camouflaged entrance that led to an underground tunnel and motioned them forward. Hardy climbed down a weak ladder into the tunnel first. His British made 9 mm submachine gun trained on the tunnel expecting to find storm troopers waiting for them. Leslie followed down next, stumbling down the ladder, missing the last step and landing on her backside with an unpleasant thud.
